Doodles on the Margin

(The Sketches and Artwork of A.E. McGuire)

So this is the painting I had been working on last month! I can finally reveal it as I gave it to the intended recipient! She LOVED it! That’s Mell in the painting in her awesome vintage style swimsuit. She’s big into surfing and lives down in Ocean Beach. She’s one of my best friends and has done soooo much for me while I lived there I had to give her something special to remind her of the fun times we’ve had. Took me FOREVER to get the pier right. Love you Mell!!! The camera I used does NOT do the colors justice… will reshoot when back in a home location.
Officially out on my journey now… Will have some video posts soon. Cheers!

Another non representational comic from earlier this year, this time with a theme of linear shapes. I really like how the colors turned out as I could experiment fully with CS4. This was a fun exercise for me working more with my tablet and work with comic design. Warm ups for the comic I have to work on.
Not much in the way of new drawings at the moment… I did do a sketch of The Corpse Bride, but my scanner has been packed away for the move. I DID find my camera charger though! So I will be doing some video and photo work over my road trip which I’ll post here. Also I have some film work that I’ll be posting back up on my quiet, but not forgotten blog: Keeping Film Alive.
Moving sucks… and cars are money pits. Such is life. Can’t wait to be in RI once more!

Another non representational comic, using a theme of punctuation. This one was colored in CS4 rather than with prismacolor markers. I wanted to be able to test colors out instead of committing to the permanency of marker. Guess I like to AVOID commitment! Ha ha ha.

More to come…

Just a heads up to those who just started following me and those who check this out occasionally, I am in the process of packing up for a cross country move! Eeeep! I will try to get some stuff up in the next few weeks, but if any of you have done this before you know how hectic it is. Heck, moving in general sucks. I’m surrounded by an extreme level of chaos now, instead of my usual normal level of chaos.

I’ll get some older stuff queued up for your viewing pleasure! I may also shoot some video when I tackle the open road! Until then… Cheers! Thank you for your support!

I am STOKED for how this came out! This was supposed to be a quick sketch, but ended up being more. This takes place not long before the story starts, but it’s an accurate portrayal of how Nova and her crew interact before Del enters the picture. Nova watches quietly as Ari pokes fun at Neil. The dialogue is as follows…
Ari: Hey Nova! Remember the time Neil fell into the pond?!
Neil: If I remember correctly, Ari, I didn’t fall… you TRIPPED me.
I need to get back on the writing! Soooo much to do, so little time. I’m cutting back hardcore on Facebook and Netflix/Hulu this month, so I should have more time for art! Or reading. Whichever tickles my fancy. :)

Another Nova Earth flashback here. It’s kinda fun to draw these characters from earlier days. They seem like such a fun bunch of kids, the kind you would have wanted to hang with. Not because they are too cool for school, but because they have loads of good ol’ fashion fun! There will certainly be plenty of flashback fun in this series.
Also threw in Nova’s parents who I haven’t drawn before. Not sure how I feel about their features. Still have to work on them.

I can’t recall whether or not I’ve posted Darcy before. She’s probably my favorite character to draw from any story I have. If I do a random character doodle, 95% of the time it’s usually some variation of this girl. So this is her in her private school uniform which whenever I will work with this story will only be worn for one day. So sad, I think it’s a cute uniform. Colors are maroon, grey, and gold. But alas, it’s a summer story so no school after that initial first day.

More character sketches! New one added to the mix! Myra is Nova and Pax’s grandmother and I think this is a successful attempt at drawing an old lady. Ha ha. I’ve never had to draw old ladies, so I’m glad she’s looks like she’s someone who’s aged somewhat gracefully. Ha ha.
